iray for Maya release

You may have seen our previous posts about iray for Maya from [0x1].

Now you can find more detail on their website: iray For Maya This includes features and pricing. This is definitely the preferred approach to using iray in Maya allowing you to use the Material Definition Language and Light Path Expressions for production quality scenes.

  1. Really Cool they realize that but the price …hum a bit salt, haha for sure make life easy! Thanks for share David!

    • Pricing models may change. For now I’m unclear if the single node locked license 3 render licenses are per physical GPU (card) or per workstation (that may have multiple GPUs)

  2. The price is insane. Looks like Octane is a way more affordable, 199 euro stand alone and 359 euro for pack, while offering the great features and quality. Any reason to choose iray then?

    • Different feature sets, depends on what you need.

Note that this is integrated through the iray integration framework (formerly Neuray) and not as a mental ray plug-in (like iray in 3DS Max) This means access to LPE and MDL tools and more modes of iray for interactivity.

  3. Pricing is a bit insane. Especially considering that iRay is integrated already into Max, and that starting with the 2015 iteration of Max it will (apparently) support passes/elements.

I wanted to ask though – if this announcement is basically a guarantee that iRay won’t ship by default with maya 2015?

Also – when is your gnomon master class release planned for? 😉

    • The integration into Maya uses the neuray framework which makes the full features of MDL and LPE (and more) available to users. This is honestly a better direction I think than the Max integration (although it has its own advantages)

Maya has its own set of plans for the rendering future I’m sure.

Not sure about my class on DVD, that’s up to Gnomon for now.
